NCADV Releases 2020 Remember My Name

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) released its 2020 "Remember My Name" today, marking the 27th addition to the collection. The poster's release coincides with Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) in October. This year's image was designed by NCADV and can be downloaded from the NCADV website.

The 2020 Remember My Name includes the names, ages, and states of 226 victims killed by domestic violence abusers last year as well as an additional 36 victims from previous years. “For NCADV along with  the families and loved ones of those represented on this poster, this is more than a poster. This is a tribute and call to action.  A tribute to those we have lost to domestic violence and a call to action by those families, friends, communities and others impacted by these losses. As always, we are overwhelmed by the number of victims and ask you to respond to this crisis, on behalf of those lost and impacted by this public health crisis." says Ruth M. Glenn, NCADV's President/CEO.

NCADV, in conjunction with Ms. Magazine, started the Remember My Name project in 1994 to create a national registry of names to increase public awareness of domestic violence deaths. Since then, NCADV has continued to collect information on incidents of women and others who have been killed by an intimate partner and produces an image in memoriam each year for Domestic Violence Awareness Month listing the names of those submitted. NCADV is creating as complete a registry as possible of women, children and men who have lost their lives due to domestic violence.

Domestic violence is prevalent in every community and affects all people regardless of age, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. In the United States, an average of 20 people are physically abused by intimate partners every minute, which equates to more than 10 million abuse victims each year.
