Children's Nurturer Part-time, 20 hours per week, a variety of shifts primarily weekdays includes holiday shifts as needed.
Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Children’s Nurturer is responsible to provide support to and engage child victims and child witnesses of domestic and sexual violence in individual and group settings. Plan, organize and provide indoor and outdoor activities. Facilitate activities and events, provide homework assistance, attend agency outings including field trips. Organize, clean and maintain healing spaces for the children, so their parent may attend individual/group counseling and crisis intervention services. Promote a culture of non-violence and nurturing with children of all ages while supporting the First Step philosophy of empowerment, education and prevention of violence. Responsible for special projects as assigned. Comprehensive training and supervision provided.
Associates Degree in related field or equivalent experience. Capable of handling crisis situations effectively. Experience working with children of various ages, backgrounds, and developmental levels-especially those with sometimes challenging behaviors. Experience working with survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and/or trauma. Caring, empathetic, client-centered approach. Demonstrated initiative, high professional standards, and excellent organizational skills. Experience working successfully with people from diverse backgrounds. Ability to work independently and with supervision. Strong oral and verbal communication skills. Ability to travel between sites in Wayne County.
Valid MI drivers license, current auto insurance, criminal background check, sex offender registry check, Department of Health and Human Services clearance, have and maintain an excellent driving record, and reliable transportation required.
Ability to lift 30 pounds on occasion. Bilingual a plus. EOE.
