Director of Residential Services

Under the direction of the Chief Program Officer, four Directors of Programs help provide the overall administration and management of all counseling, shelter, and outreach programs.  The Director of Residential Programs position has a special focus on managing our two 24/7 emergency shelters.



  • Responsible for all programmatic and operational aspects of the emergency shelters, including the 24 hour hotline.
  • Provide direct supervision to four Senior Residential Advocates and indirect supervision of all residential advocates, including per diem staff.
  • In collaboration with the Deputy Program Officer, provide supervision to the residential program counseling staff.
  • Work closely with program directors and the Chief Program Officer, as well as other senior management, to provide leadership and vision for short and long term strategic growth and direction.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure quality services for clients and accountability for staff, including client records and other program documentation to ensure compliance with agency and funding standards.
  • Collaborate with Senior Management, Development and Finance Department staff to prepare reports and program evaluations as per funding requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely collection of statistical data from shelters using Apricot, a web-based client data system.
  • Act as liaison with outside agencies in an effort to establish and enhance relationships, working towards a more coordinated community approach to domestic violence.
  • Assess and recognize training needs, and support staff to provide case management, advocacy, resources and referrals to residents.
  • Responsible for oversight and management of shelter staff coverage.
  • Provide crisis intervention and practical assistance to clients as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


Experience Required

• Masters of Social Work or related degree and/or five years of prior management and supervisory experience essential • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends as needed to support 24/7 operations • Ability to work within a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities • Strong ability to maintain confidentiality and report critical information in a timely manner • Ability to manage crises with tact, diplomacy and sound judgment • Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills • Experience working with social service organizations and knowledge of domestic violence/victimization/women’s issues strongly preferred • Strong written and oral communication skills • Strong computer skills, including spreadsheet and database programs • Excellent interpersonal skills
